Studio Yorktown is the working name of Kwame Bruce Busia, a London-based generative artist who codes geometric, architecturally influenced compositions rooted in grids, proportion and modernist design.,His work draws on the Bauhaus, mid-century modernism and Eastern design, and is often shaped by nostalgia and anemoia, a longing for places he has not actually experienced.,
Busia trained in architecture and spent over two decades in graphic design and branding before founding Studio Yorktown to create digital design resources for other artists. His interest in cryptocurrency dated to 2016, and in July 2021 he released his first NFT, Tenement, a 43-layer programmable Ethereum artwork on Async Art that let token owners control the lit and unlit windows of an apartment building.,Discovering Andreas Rau's project Loom later that year led him to teach himself the coding library p5.js and Tezos-based generative art, producing his first algorithmic collection, Sabler, on fxhash.
Sabler, an anagram of Albers, pays homage to the Bauhaus textile artist Anni Albers, with proportions governed by the golden ratio. Lebras extends the same homage to Josef Albers and Gunta Stölzl, combining the golden and silver ratios across a five-column grid capable of near-endless variation. In Perpendicular Inhabitation (2023), released on fxhash as an edition of 512, he generated nostalgic skylines colored after faded manga and 1980s Japanese City Pop album art. The buildings are constructed on an underlying two-dimensional grid, drawn from right to left and top to bottom to create the illusion of three-dimensional cityscapes.
Tesseract (2022) draws on oneirology, the interpretation of dreams, abstracting the square, considered a “perfect shape” in many mythologies, into a three-dimensional cube that stands for facets of the human condition.,In 2024 he made Jidouhanbaiki, a generative portrait maker for Ledger's Stax device inspired by Japan's street vending machines, pairing a monochrome e-ink edition with a full-color on-screen counterpart. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami Beach, Proof Of People London and NEAL Digital Gallery in China, and shown in Unit London's online exhibition “Building Blocks”.,,
