Studio Captain is the name used by Stefan Sloot, a visual artist and designer from Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. His minimal, geometric artworks aim for what he calls “a visual calmness”, built from shapes he says he searches out where no one else is looking.
The collector and curator kompakd staged a solo exhibition of Sloot's early work from Hic et Nunc in a virtual gallery on oncyber.io, including three unique pieces from the series Mislead and full sets from the series Grid, FEWS and Dimensions. In January 2022, the curator remixed pieces from Sloot's series Undisrupted Geometry and Disrupted Geometry into Artem Ex Machina, a set of four computer-generated 1/1 artworks that reduce the source geometry to a calculated distribution of pixels and colors.
