Marcel Giannoccaro, known as Strano, is a Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist who works primarily in 3D animation, using light as his medium and chiaroscuro and primitive shapes to explore the technological landscape with a sense of spirituality and melancholy. He studied Visual Arts and briefly pursued industrial design before co-directing a video production company while also making digital art, drawing on architecture, photography, cinema and sculpture.
In April 2022 he minted Free fall into the Abyss, built partly from public domain models and released in an edition of 20.In February 2023 he released INVERSE on SuperRare, a single-edition GIF of 100 frames built around the lines “Humans as machines, machines as humans, no turning back, we're in too deep”.His work has been shown at the Larsen Warner Gallery in Stockholm and auctioned through Sotheby's Metaverse.
Beyond his own art, Strano hosts events at his studio, including RGBMTL and Full Screen Fridays, and has curated group exhibitions for other artists.,,,He co-curated the “RGB Montreal” show with Aitso and Nicolas Sassoon.Strano curated “Metal”, the second show in Cyberforms' 5×5 series in which artists take turns as curator, contributing his own piece Rise of the Fallen Star, an edition of 25.He also curated “IRREVERSIBLE”, a group show of 15 artists presented as part of a 360-degree exhibition at TezDev 2026 in Cannes, with revenue pooled and split equally among the participants through a custom smart contract.
His ongoing series br0ken turns pixelated glitches and textures into custom digital paint brushes, which he uses to record gestures and motions that become the basis for each animation. He has described the process as “I push pixels until they crack, then I sit with the debris and piece them back together until they find their own beat”.
