Stephen Biernacki is a conceptual artist based near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,whose work he describes as “mechanisms built around feelings”.He works as a marketer by profession and has called himself a “dabbling artist”,releasing digital pieces across platforms including Verse, Raster, Transient Labs, OpenSea and objkt on Tezos.
In Syntax/Synapse, a 2023 series,Biernacki used artificial intelligence to reinterpret phrases whose meanings exceed their literal wording.His series Self-Addressed (2024-2026)comprises 42 pieces:a failed instant photograph of himself in a mirror, scanned and reworked so that the Ethereum address embedded in it changes with each change of ownership, produced as an original plus 41 color variants.He described The Conceptual Armor Is Bullshit, a 2026 series of retinal scans,,as “an exercise in proving something to myself”, adding that “sometimes an image is just cool” after concluding his attempts to build a concept around the images felt forced.
Five months after his father's death,Biernacki released Vestige, an audio-responsive 1/1 built from a photograph he took on an unplanned hike after visiting his father's grave.The piece shows the reflection of trees in a lake rather than the trees themselves.In a quiet room the real trees gradually appear, but recede if the room grows too loud.Biernacki has said the reflection represents his father, describing it as “all I have left of him”.
