Stellabelle is an American cryptoartist, writer and metaverse builder who has been making and minting art on blockchains since 2017.,During the 2008 recession, after losing her job and apartment, she spent three months on the streets of San Diego selling and giving away handmade postcards in a project she called the Patron Saint of Postcards.
She discovered blockchain technology by accident in 2016 via Steemit while working as a science and technology writer, and in 2017 founded Slothicorn, one of the first Creative Commons cryptoart collectives, on the Steem blockchain.,That year she also painted Bitcoin Hard Fork of 2017: Birth of Bitcoin Cash, later minted on SuperRare, which is in MOCA's permanent collection.In early 2020 she began minting full time across platforms including Makersplace, OpenSea, NFTShowroom and Rarible, and her genesis piece, Diamond Alligator, was minted on the Hive blockchain that year.,
In 2021 she created CryptoStellas, a satirical series responding to the excesses of the PFP boom on Ethereum, and coined the phrase “Wagmi Empire” to describe newcomers who repurposed cypherpunk culture for profit.She has also helped lead the TezTrash movement on Tezos, showing “TRASHART NFT Garbology” at L'Avant Galerie Vossen in Paris in 2022.,In March 2024 she held her first solo exhibition, “Stellabelle Au Carré”, at L'Avant Galerie Vossen in Paris, presenting works including Stella Mundi, a reworking of the Salvator Mundi composition, and Gigatura Kills Lord Finky, part of an ongoing Tezos-based series, Gigatura, imagining a rebellion against a dystopian techno-monarchy called Gigacorp.,
