steganon began making generative art in early 2021, after discovering Art Blocks and studying the code of artists including manoloide and Jared Tarbell.,His first NFT project was a derivative of Tarbell's Sand Traveler, which Tarbell authorized him to sell. His first sale, in July 2021, was five pieces from Friendly Abstractions, bought for the ABSTRACT Vault subscription project. He also released the 1-of-1 Flaming Tulips on Foundation. As his practice developed, steganon moved away from sharing works-in-progress on social media, preferring that collectors see only the finished pieces.
In 2022 steganon released Autology, a 1,024-piece long-form generative art series on Art Blocks in which the source code for each piece is hidden within its own image using steganography. Its Voronoi-tessellation-based visual style grew out of a coding accident. While adjusting the algorithm he dropped the outermost polygon of the pattern, breaking the tessellation into a look he then adopted for the entire series.The same year he released Assorted Positivity, a generative pixel-sorting series built without any photographic base in which each output hides an uplifting word using steganography. A share of its proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.Generative art projects by steganon raised more than $620,000 for charitable organizations, distributed through a donor-advised fund on Endaoment.
