The project began in 2020, when touring shutdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic led 3LAU and Slimesunday to look for a way to keep making music together while experimenting with the emerging medium of NFTs.² Their debut NFT drop sold out within seconds through bidding wars that pushed some pieces to $20,000 each, and they followed it with a second Nifty Gateway release on March 12, 2021.^1,2

In 2022 the pair released the four-track IRIDESCENT EP, comprising FLUX, FACES, FLOW and Gunky's Uprising, as standalone instrumentals after the songs had circulated only as part of the SSX3LAU NFT collection. Ownership of the original tracks entitled NFT holders to 100 percent of the masters and publishing rights, and the income they generate.⁴
