SPACEFILLER is a Seattle-based artist duo formed by Alexander Nagy and Alexander Miller, working across visual art, music, programming, and mathematics. They create interactive installations that use generative algorithms, projection mapping, and light and sound to let viewers manipulate simulated natural systems and explore the balance between order and chaos.,
The duo's name refers to a pattern in Conway's Game of Life, a mathematical model of emergent behavior, and reflects their interest in disorienting, light-filled environments.Since 2018 they have developed Living Walls, a series of interactive installations in which projected plants and organisms grow and die in response to viewers, beginning with a permanent installation at the Vida apartment complex in Seattle. A later version, Petri Panels, was presented at the Seattle Art Museum's SAM Lights event in December 2019 and let viewers trigger algorithmically generated sound, created with collaborator Mick Marchan, by pressing buttons on a controller.
In 2019 they held their first solo gallery show, “Fantasy Parameter Spaces”, at Glass Box Gallery in Seattle, presenting works from Algoplex I, an interactive light-cube controller first built in 2017, to the newly made Particle Collider, a projection-mapped table that let viewers manipulate simulated particle streams using chaos theory.,,They also created High Top-ography, an interactive shoe pedestal made for the Moo-Young Concept Shop in 2018.In 2022 their generative collection spaceplant was released on the FxHash platform. In 2025 they took part in “Neo Botanica: An Atlas of Artificially Generated Flora”, a group exhibition at Load Gallery.
