somaticbits, also known as David Pettersson, is a digital artist who uses code and design to create interactive, immersive and generative artworks representing a complex inner world of altered realities. A graphic designer turned creative coder, he uses light and colour to distort reality and question the viewer's sensory perception.
In 2021 his work was included in “I by alterHEN”, a group show staged by the digital art space alterHEN.,His artwork Shine, published in the alterHEN issue The Tickle, imagines how photons might interact in a different environment, creating new combinations of colour and light.That year he also co-organized the first Hicathon, a hackathon run by the platform HicEtNunc, together with the artist Diane Drubay.,Pettersson and Drubay collaborate under the name eigenflow, disrupting the flow of nature to recreate synthetic natural environments.
Their series Somatic Journey, 2021, recomposed 220 AI-generated photographs of seascapes into a synthetic meteorological journey and was exhibited at alterHEN.In Solvent Suns, 2022, a series of six one-channel videos, the pair visualized how greenhouse effects might affect the sun if it were closer to Earth. Each video serves as a sensory metaphor for the sun's future.
