Solimán López is a Spanish artist whose practice combines environmental DNA, artificial intelligence, data visualization and blockchain to store and transmit memory across biological and digital systems. His work treats data as an artistic material, turning records of humanity's impact on Earth into aesthetic experience rather than analysis.
In 2023 he developed Manifesto Terricola with the MIT Media Lab and biomateriality researcher Viven Roussel, a text on humanity's environmental future divided into five conceptual blocks and encoded into DNA. The DNA sequence was tokenized on the blockchain, then bioprinted into the shape of a human ear, referencing the severed ear of Vincent van Gogh and the ear Stelarc implanted in his own forearm. The sculpture was buried in the Arctic permafrost of Svalbard as a time capsule.
