Socmplxd is a Taiwanese-American multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles who works across film production and digital art.Drawing on a background as a film set designer, he builds staged, precisely lit still lifes of mundane everyday objects — food, domestic clutter, screens, workspaces — rendered in a crisp, simplified style described as digital realism.
Born in Taiwan, he moved between cities and countries in his youth before settling in the United States, and has said he found solace in drawing during those years of relocation. He studied both traditional and digital media, earning a BFA in Fine Arts. His work blends the manga and anime that shaped him as a child with the Western art he encountered after moving to the US.
He has shown work in group exhibitions at NFT/NYC, in curated auctions with Sotheby's, and in a solo exhibition at Gallery Ninfa in Milan. His 2024 collection Parallax extends his still-life practice into the urban cityscapes of Los Angeles, drawing on his daily commutes through the city to juxtapose growth and decay, stillness and movement, in scenes he has described as evoking melancholy and the pressure to keep pace.
