Herman Pretorius, known online as sizeight, is a developer and artist who has run his personal site, sizeight.com, since 2005 and has made artwork in collage, pen, colour pencil, digital and print since 2016.His practice combines hand-drawn rule-based compositions with custom software that generates unique variations, released as limited-edition prints, drawings and NFTs.
A developer working mainly with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python and Django, he built his first website in 1995.His series NY-LA began as drawings built from a set of rules that produced compositions with two shapes reminiscent of New York and Los Angeles; once the rules were refined, he wrote a computer program to apply them and generate unique square compositions.Released starting in 2021, NY-LA comprises 120 unique artworks, each minted once as an NFT on the Ethereum blockchain and sold on OpenSea in drops of ten, with owners able to order a matching archival print or an original pen-and-colour-pencil drawing.,
On 22 February 2022 he released Instructures on fxhash.xyz, a generative art platform on the Tezos blockchain, as an edition of 475, with owners able to order matching archival pigment prints of their tokens.,
