The Israeli artist Shir Pakman is a visual artist, 3D designer and animator based in Tel Aviv. She makes figurative images that bring classical painting into 3D software, reworking familiar traditional paintings from a woman's point of view. Her figures are peaceful and sensitive, caught between digital and physical worlds.
Pakman studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem from 2013 to 2017.She made a 3D animated film in her final year and afterwards worked mostly in branding, advertising and 3D design. Her clients have included Google, Microsoft, Wix and The New Yorker. She says she finds it easier to work on one frame than to animate an entire scene.
Her influences are classical figurative art, from the Renaissance and from Dutch, German and British painting, and she names Lucian Freud as the artist who started her obsession with art. She starts from a simple sketch made in Procreate, models it in Autodesk Maya and renders it in Cinema 4D with Octane. She then returns the render to Procreate to make it feel more painterly. In 2021 she made NFTs including Gently Peel The Skin to Reveal The Seeds Underneath, It's Time to Harvest The Peas and My Little Baby, which she describes as being about the close relationship between nature and woman. In Scouters, two young women carry a log against a natural backdrop, and handmade brushstrokes were imported into the 3D program to give it a painted look.In 2022 Unit London showed her work at the Digital Art Fair Xperience in Hong Kong.,
