sgt_slaughtermelon is a pseudonymous artist working in psychedelic, abstract digital art that blends glitch aesthetics with generative and pop-influenced techniques.,He has said his goal is for the work to spark “a sense of awe or a sense of peace or a sense of excitement”.
As a child he drew comic characters from memory and hoped to become a cartoonist, and discovered a wider range of art history through art books passed on by a neighbor in high school. His father bought him Photoshop Elements and encouraged a career in computer graphics rather than fine art, and he went on to earn a computer graphics degree.In mid-2019 he built Lazlo Lissitsky, a generative program named for László Moholy-Nagy and El Lissitzky that produces Suprematist and Swiss Modern-style compositions, some under invented artist personas and titles. The project became one of the works he is most proud of, and its archives were among the pieces that first drew him into crypto art.
That connection eventually led to Jeff Davis at Art Blocks, who had already bought one of his pieces from him, and the two began collaborating.In August 2021 he and Tartaria Archivist released autoRAD on Art Blocks, a fixed edition of 1,000 works reviving the free-flowing, colorful compositions of the Memphis and Neo-Memphis design movement.In 2024 he wrote an essay on the fragmented state of the blockchain art market, pointing to unique per-collection smart contracts as a barrier to gauging success, and to AI-assisted discovery tools and subscription models as emerging responses.He has also released For The Culture, a series of MacPaint-style portraits, through Party's Packs system.
