Scott Eaton (American, b. 1973) is an artist, photographer and designer whose work explores the human figure through drawing, sculpture, photography and generative AI. Based in London, he trained in design and computer graphics at the MIT Media Lab before studying academic drawing and sculpture in Florence, Italy.,
He works across traditional sculpting techniques and digital tools, and his design work has been featured in Wired, Vogue, Vanity Fair, the Times and the Telegraph, and sold through Harrods and other design retailers. His Venus of Cupertino iPad docking station drew wide attention online, generating tens of thousands of posts and shares. He has collaborated with the artist Jeff Koons and the Turner Prize–winning artist Mark Wallinger, and worked on commissions for institutions including the BBC and the London Science Museum. He also consults on anatomy for visual effects and animation studios, including Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic, Disney and Blizzard. In 2014 he won the Cannes Lions Grand Prix.
In 2019 he presented the solo exhibition “Artist+AI: Figures & Form” at Somerset House in London, which paired his figurative photography and drawing with AI systems he called his “assistants”.,For the project he trained AI on his own photographs and drawings to generate two related bodies of work: “Figures”, photographic renders of his drawings, and “Form”, simplified sculptural translations of drawn and animated input into three dimensions. One key piece from the show, Entangled II, used high-speed footage of fluids shot on a Phantom Flex camera to feed the AI process.Later that year his work was shown at Ars Electronica in Linz.In 2023 his video piece Caryatids, an evolving dancer's silhouette, and his Caffeinated Diversions editions, GAN-generated human forms based on hand-drawn sketches, were shown at Unit London as part of the exhibition “The Perfect Error”.
