Saskia Freeke is a Dutch artist, creative coder and interaction designer based in Amsterdam whose work focuses on structure, geometry and playfulness. Since January 2015 she has produced a daily generative artwork, mostly made with Processing, exploring patterns and animations. She has been described as a pioneer of the daily creative coding practice known as “dailies”.
Freeke holds a Master of Arts in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London (2017) and a Bachelor of Art and Technology in Interaction Design from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (2012). She later taught physical computing at Goldsmiths and visual design at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht's School for Games and Interaction. While studying at Goldsmiths, she built a machine that used sensors and fans to repeatedly and intentionally fail at producing a ticker-tape parade, shown in the “Compiler” exhibition. Beyond her digital dailies, she translates the same generative patterns into physical form through laser-cut wood and paper structures and printed designs.
