Saskia Freeke is a Dutch artist, creative coder and interaction designer based in Amsterdam whose work focuses on structure, geometry and playfulness.Since January 2015 she has produced a daily generative artwork, mostly made with Processing, exploring patterns and animations.,,She has been described as a pioneer of the daily creative coding practice known as “dailies”.
Freeke holds a Master of Arts in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London (2017) and a Bachelor of Art and Technology in Interaction Design from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (2012).She later taught physical computing at Goldsmiths and visual design at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht's School for Games and Interaction.,While studying at Goldsmiths, she built a machine that used sensors and fans to repeatedly and intentionally fail at producing a ticker-tape parade, shown in the “Compiler” exhibition.Beyond her digital dailies, she translates the same generative patterns into physical form through laser-cut wood and paper structures and printed designs.,
Her research also turns to tangible interfaces, focusing on the cultural relationship between humans and machines through playful interactive installations.In enchanting luxuriance, 2021, grids of abstract data float upward and can be removed by the viewer, only to reappear elsewhere, in a reflection on a world saturated with interfaces.The piece was made for “Social Codes”, a 2021 group exhibition on Feral File curated by Casey Reas, and released in an edition of 75.Her work has been shown in Berlin, London, Paris, Los Angeles and cities across the Netherlands.,
