Sasha Belitskaja is an Estonian architectural designer and extended-reality developer who makes digital art under the name beisik, exploring the juxtaposition of abstract organic geometry with synthetic, organism-like movement.,She studied architecture at the University of Dundee and with Studio Greg Lynn in Vienna, and began working in digital art in 2021.
She is a cofounder of iheartblob, an award-winning mixed-reality architectural design studio and research collective focused on emerging technologies in architecture.,In 2022 iheartblob won the Tallinn Architecture Biennale's Installation Programme Competition with the Fungible Non-Fungible Pavilion, billed as the first blockchain-funded architecture initiative, which opened to the public in Tallinn that September.Visitors could design their own NFT bricks through an online app, which the studio then fabricated as physical bricks and assembled into a structure in the city.
Minting under the name beisik, Belitskaja began releasing work on Tezos, valuing its low transaction fees and what she has called its “incredibly supportive” art community.“We don't want to look pretty anymore, we want to look unique”, she has said, words later cited by fellow artist Iskra Velitchkova to illustrate rarity as a human need to feel special rather than simply pretty.Her collection Common Spaces comprises 100 individual microverses, each built in VR and refined by hand on an iPad, from the walls and floors to sculptures and characters within them.
