Salyaku is the artist name of Esteban Salgado, an Ecuadorian-born [inter]media artist and designer based in New York City. He chose the name as a reference to his mestizo roots and a fascination with water. His practice combines collage, generative art, artificial intelligence, machine learning and AR/VR within an abstract visual identity built around movement.
Salgado founded the creative studio Velesi, where he has worked for technology companies and cultural and educational organizations, and worked as an Art Director for design studios in New York, San Francisco and Quito. He also founded Grafitat, a non-profit organization that promotes Latin American artists and designers. Salgado holds a BFA with honors in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and has been invited as a visiting professor in cities across Asia, Europe and Latin America, including at Ecole Intuit.Lab in Mumbai.
His collage practice includes hand-made artist books such as Finit and Aurora, made in 2007,,and individual paper collages including Centennials, from 2017,and Turnin, from 2019.In 2018 he also made Assembla, a generative art series.
