Ryder Ripps (American, b. 1986) is a conceptual artist and designer whose practice works at the boundaries between art, the internet and commerce. His work spans painting, performance, websites and NFTs. Ripps co-founded the online art community Dump.fm and the digital agency OKFocus.
Ripps has catalogued early internet art through his project Internet Archeology. In 2013 he took part in the performance Hyper Current Living, working in a residency space at the Red Bull Music Academy. Dressed in a Red Bull karate uniform, Ripps drank cans of Red Bull and shared the ideas for artworks and online projects he generated on Twitter. The 2014 exhibition “Ho” at Postmasters in New York showed oil paintings based on digitally warped images from a model's Instagram account. Ripps wrote that he hired the assistants of Jeff Koons to paint the pieces. In 2017 he presented the virtual reality piece Diventare Schiavo (Become a Slave) at the Venice Biennale, in which visitors packed boxes in a virtual factory.
