Ryan Struhl is a generative artist, creative coder and software engineer based in Portland, Maine, who develops procedural works using geometric shapes and contrasting color palettes. His series Letters to My Future Self, a fixed edition of 1,000 unique works released on Art Blocks on October 1, 2021, explores communication across time.
In his own words, the series channels “the fear and anger I've felt in lockdown isolation” alongside “the joy in finding new friends and community”. Each piece is framed as a letter sent into the future, permanently recorded on the blockchain. A quarter of proceeds from the series supports art education grants through DonorsChoose. Struhl's text-based generative work has been described, alongside that of other blockchain-native writers, as a form of “asemic poetry” that channels new cybernetic languages.
