Bio

Ruben Alexander is a US artist based in Boston who works across renders, photography and generative art. He describes himself as someone who loves to experiment and mix tools and mediums, moving between digital art and music production.^, His digital work The death of rock n roll reflects on how socially distanced audiences experienced digitized music during the pandemic.

Alexander released the generative project Star Flower through Art Blocks Factory. He also contributed Tile #62 to LayerBreaker, a large collaborative artwork on Async Art assembled from tiles made by many different artists. He has also worked as editor-in-chief of Bitcoin Magazine.

In music, Alexander moved from folk, after seeing artists like Leo Kottke live in college, toward drum and bass through a college radio show, and later electronic production influenced by Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, mostly built using Fruity Loops software. His 2019 album Orca Watch was his first generative record, made by feeding patterns from Orca, a tool by 100 rabbits, into Fruity Loops and recording the results as he heard them for the first time. For Mixx EP, released in 2016, he compiled cleaned-up versions of songs he had written about music theory for Steemit readers under the handle @rubenalexander, and had its cover chosen through a design contest.
