Rocketgirl is a pseudonymous painter from Northern Ireland whose practice she describes as post-iconic figuration: figurative abstraction with a signature of eyes obscured by bright painted-over flashes.,Classically trained in oils since childhood, she works in a hybrid process, generating digital variations with custom AI models trained on her own paintings before applying changes back to the physical canvas.
She grew up in rural Northern Ireland during the Troubles, drawing constantly as a child and staging weekend exhibitions of her work in the family attic. After studying at the University of Edinburgh, she earned two bachelor's and two master's degrees in business and PR rather than art, at her mother's insistence, and set painting aside as she built a career and raised a daughter. After six or seven years without painting, a conversation with her partner led her to pick the brush back up, and a curator, Paul Nesbit, encouraged her to organize her first solo exhibition.
Her paintings draw on Greek mythology, learned from her grandfather's readings as a child, and on the religious imagery of her Protestant upbringing, alongside experiences from psychedelics and the rave scene that shaped her sense that the visible world hides another layer beneath it. She has said she wants her work to “do a hit-and-run with your emotions”, provoking a visceral reaction before the viewer has time to think. By spring 2021 she had begun minting NFTs, after the COVID-19 pandemic pushed her toward crypto art.
Her Meme Card ParthenOM, minted in December 2023 as card 176 of The Memes collection, reimagines the Parthenon as the foundational structure of the open metaverse. In 2025 she completed a month-long international artist residency in Bali, which she has called life-changing.She contributed a piece described as “Vedic triads of creation, purification, and emergence” to the resulting group show “You May Know Them” on SuperRare.
