Robert Gallardo (American, b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative consultant who works across mobile apps, installations, social media, and film, translating complex ideas into accessible forms. He describes himself as “an observer and a simplifier”. He has collaborated with musicians including A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and Juicy J, and with brands such as Puma, Converse, and Sotheby's.
Gallardo has been responsible for A$AP Rocky's visual presence since early 2015, developing a style built from fragmented, deconstructed references to 1990s cartoons, TV logos, and video game characters he grew up with. Beginning on July 17, 2015, he also adopted the practice of wearing only grey clothing every day, a personal uniform inspired partly by the uniforms worn by Andy Warhol, Picasso, and Steve Jobs. Gallardo's artwork has been described as lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek commentary on society, an approach he connects to his interest in stand-up comedians such as George Carlin and Dave Chappelle.
