Robert Gallardo (American, b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative consultantwho works across mobile apps, installations, social media, and film, translating complex ideas into accessible forms.He describes himself as “an observer and a simplifier”.He has collaborated with musicians including A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and Juicy J, and with brands such as Puma, Converse, and Sotheby's.
Gallardo has been responsible for A$AP Rocky's visual presence since early 2015, developing a style built from fragmented, deconstructed references to 1990s cartoons, TV logos, and video game characters he grew up with.Beginning on July 17, 2015, he also adopted the practice of wearing only grey clothing every day, a personal uniform inspired partly by the uniforms worn by Andy Warhol, Picasso, and Steve Jobs. Gallardo's artwork has been described as lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek commentary on society, an approach he connects to his interest in stand-up comedians such as George Carlin and Dave Chappelle.
After years of making covers and videos for local musicians, Gallardo created the Cover Art Studio app,which gives musicians with limited resources a way to make cover art for their songs without hiring a graphic designer.He also founded No More Land, a design initiative aimed at creating products for homeless people, which he has called a “life work” rather than something to be finished quickly.Born in Frankfort, Kentucky, Gallardo lives and works between Florida and Los Angeles.
