Rob Dixon, known as Radix, creates bright and expressive artwork using hand-coded algorithms.He began experimenting with generative art in the late 1990s, when Macromedia Flash made creative coding accessible on the web.,His work explores themes of memory, longing, resilience, and the bridging of the digital and the organic. Dixon lives and works in Marin County, in Northern California.
Before turning to blockchain art, Dixon worked as a software engineer, designing games including Monopoly Slots for Electronic Arts and Wheel of Fortune Slots for the Game Show Network.He also worked on the Flash Player team at Adobe, creating sample applications and documentation.,He became involved with Decentraland, co-creating the WonderMine game, part of the WonderZone Amusement Park in Decentraland, and helping design wearables including the Wonderbot outfit for Decentraland avatars.,,In 2018 he co-created the NFT trading card project CryptoBeasties.,In 2021 Dixon released Inspirals on Art Blocks Curated, a 1,000-piece series inspired by M.C. Escher's plane-tiling images that lets collectors fly through the spiral and distort its repeating shapes.,He followed it with Eccentrics, released on Art Blocks in 2021, which began as a test of a layout algorithm and evolved into a project built from simple geometric shapes that could suggest faces, towers, or alien eyes.,
Ballistics, released in 2023, presents generative 3D kinetic sculptures inspired by Naum Gabo, Julio Le Parc, and the GRAV collective, viewable on the web, in augmented reality, and in the metaverse.,Windwoven simulates smoke coalescing into strands of fiber and yarn, with palettes drawn from research into fiber arts including yarn, wool, and Alpaca fur colors.The 105-piece series was shown in 2023 at the Proof Diamond Exhibition group show at Foundry Gallery in Los Angeles.In Exposures, a 100-piece series released via MakersPlace and gmDAO in 2024, transparent, low-poly figures navigate abstract 3D worlds rendered in a faux hand-painted style.,,The series reflects on the mediated, screen-filtered nature of contemporary experience and was shown at the Miami Digital Art Fair in December 2024.,Dixon followed it with Shadow Exposures, a companion collection released in January 2025 to raise funds for victims of the Los Angeles fires.He released Hatches, a 300-piece series blending influences from Frank Lloyd Wright, Art Deco, the Bauhaus school, and Sol LeWitt's rules-based practice, on Art Blocks Studio in January 2026.,
