RMTRL is the name used by the artist Daniel Rojatz for a practice built on overpainting found and vintage photographs. He mixes earth, charcoal, wax and found plastic or packaging into the paint, then re-photographs, reprints and overpaints the image again. He spent more than twenty years working in visual communication, including art direction and photography, before turning his interest in the dust and scratches on negatives into a practice.
He discovered Tezos NFTs and Hic et Nunc after reading about them online, and minted his first work there. Having never used Twitter before, he found that joining the NFT community there felt like the true start of his NFT journey. His work has been described as favoring spontaneity and chance over rational thought, in keeping with a Romantic sensibility, and as pushing back against hyper-modernity. One 2022 piece, untitled overpainting no.0075501 | limits of nature, was released on Hic et Nunc.
