Ricky Retouch is a generative artist based in Atlanta who creates procedural, code-based work in the 3D software Houdini. His grid-based aesthetic traces back to Swiss-style graphic design he discovered as a young designer, and his 2026 collection Split Logic reworks the glowing look of old CRT computer terminals.
Ricky Retouch first pursued music production before shifting his focus to visual art after friends and family responded more to his artwork than his music. He moved from graphic design and typography into 3D software, progressing from 3ds Max to Cinema 4D before settling on Houdini, a procedural tool that let him keep his work non-destructive and editable at any stage. In Surface Sets, he scattered points across a grid and layered in noise until the pattern emerged, an approach adapted from his own moving, grass-like Solana pieces The Bitter Bands and Kind Rabbits. He worked the collection down from roughly 5,000 test outputs to a curated 100 before releasing it on OpenSea.
Since 2014 he has also run Figs From Plums, a project begun on Tumblr and later moved to X, where he shares graphic design, typography, and visual effects work by other artists, including his favorite, Mark Busch, to expose collectors to art outside the NFT space. His earlier generative collections Low Language and New North developed paper-like procedural textures, a direction he carried into Split Logic, whose glowing terminal aesthetic uses moving points he calls “walkers” to suggest an instrument measuring something unknown. In July 2024 his work was featured in the debut lineup of Fakewhale's ART MARKET exhibition format on Foundation.
