Retro Manni, the pseudonym of Manjeet Gill, is a Birmingham-based digital artist and animator who builds a retro-futuristic universe steeped in 1980s and 1990s pop culture.,Its stories are painted to synthwave soundtracks and combine retro aesthetics with references to ancient spiritual mysticism.
He began painting during the 2020 lockdown, having previously worked as a filmmaker and educator. He has collaborated with photographers, repainting their night photography in a neon-lit Retro Wave palette.On Tezos he released the genesis Cyberpunk Collection.He describes himself as the creator of what he calls the Retro Man Universe™.He also released Tezos Outpost 2049, a ten-chapter audiobook available as limited-edition NFTs that follows a character named Anaiya investigating her father's death and hidden galactic secrets.
His music video Atlantis Ascending, made with jpz, won the inaugural Teztones competition on Objkt.The piece was later included in a satellite exhibition of objkt pieces at Becoming Art in Jeju, South Korea, alongside work by artists who had shown in “FuturaCanvas #0” in Seoul.His video piece Break the System was exhibited at Tezos in Lisbon during NFC.
