Jimmy Griffith, known as remnynt (b. 1985), is a systems artist who writes code to build generative worlds governed by simple physical rules.Working on the Ethereum blockchain, he explores the emergent behaviour that arises when pseudo-random systems are layered together, aiming for a sense of natural beauty and wonder.,Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he lives and works in Asheville.,
Griffith holds a degree in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and spent a decade in the games industry, where he co-developed EverWing, named Facebook Game of the Year in 2016.Studying Bitcoin in 2020 led him toward Art Blocks and Dom Hofmann's Loot, and he left his job to teach himself Solidity and make generative art for the Ethereum blockchain. In 2021 he founded the studio site vibes.art and released Vibes, an on-chain generative series exploring colour theory. He followed it in 2022 with the reliquary, a smart contract artwork built around an on-chain dungeon and evolving glitch pixel visuals.,The project responded in part to Mathcastles's Terraforms and to Matt DesLauriers's Subscapes and Meridians, works he has described as pushing him to develop greater conceptual depth.
In 2024 Art Blocks released Proscenium, Griffith's debut project for its Curated program. The series renders a physics simulation in which paint bounces like rubber across a three-dimensional terrain that collapses into a two-dimensional canvas, with each output viewable as a live render that takes up to ten minutes to resolve.,Griffith built Proscenium from 17 colour palettes derived from real paint pigments and mixed using the spectral.js library, and 19 terrain styles ranging from cityscapes to mountain ranges. At Art Blocks' Marfa Weekend he extended the same premise into a physical installation, inviting participants to follow pseudo-random prompts and bounce paint-covered balls across plywood ramps to create paintings.
