Primitive RE (b. 1988) is the working name of Sinisa Janjic, a self-taught contemporary artist based in Belgrade, Serbia. He paints abstract and figurative work with acrylics, oils and oil sticks, using palette knives and spatulas for mark-making. His work is marked by bold forms and vibrant colors.
Primitive RE draws on personal stories, everyday life, struggles and triumphs. He uses bright colors, particularly pink, against dark and assertive lines. The result is a tension between softness and strength. The 2024 paintings Diaphragmatic Breathing and Batshit Crazy are each acrylic and oil sticks on canvas, measuring 39 by 43 inches. With Resilience, these paintings are offered through Colonna Contemporary.
