Phlins is a generative artist whose code-based works trace the slow breakdown of digital structure into visual entropy.In the 2022 series kylt and ghetin, both released on the platform fx(hash),Phlins uses generative code to stage lattice-like and pillar-like forms as they decompose from ordered structures into scattered, decaying fragments.,
Across the 400 outputs of kylt, kylt #20 is the closest to a cohesive whole, a tapestry of black squares suspended on purple and yellow threads, while kylt #291 shows the decomposition complete, its faintly shaded lines dissolving into irregular polygons.,ghetin's 128 compositions were generated from three interwoven JavaScript programs, using the Tinycolor2 library for tonal range and Perlin noise, an algorithm first developed for the 1982 film Tron, to add organic, terrain-like irregularities to twisting pillar forms.
In 2024 Phlins's digital work was included in “Code – Art – Constructions. On the History of Generative Art” at Wolfsburg Castle.The exhibition presented works from the Tribute to Herbert W. Franke project, honoring the researcher, writer and multimedia artist Herbert W. Franke, who died in 2022.,
