Ronen Tanchum (b. 1987) is a post-national contemporary artist who builds computational public artworks in which machine perception, environmental data and human presence continually reshape the image.,In 2015 he founded his studio, Phenomena Labs, based in Tel Aviv, which produces, installs and maintains his large-scale and site-specific work.
Before turning fully to art, Tanchum worked in visual effects and interactive media, including contributions to Tove Lo's music video Glad He's Gone, nominated for Best Music Video at the 2020 Grammy Awards, and to the film The Walk, shortlisted for Academy Award consideration in visual effects for 2015-2016.That background fed into APEX, a 2021 Art Blocks Curated series inspired by an experience of walking across a frozen landscape toward a bright, sunlit horizon, an encounter Tanchum has said “ignited the idea to start programming APEX”.
Tanchum's generative series include Rococo Diffusion Artifacts (2024-2026), which reimagines the ornamentation of Rococo art by combining custom generative code with diffusion models, shown on the Times Square screens of ZAZ10TS.,During a 2024 OpenAI Artist Residency, Tanchum used the Sora video model to create Zen Garden, an installation that reinterprets a Japanese garden as a digitally mediated ecosystem tended by robotic gardeners.
In January 2026, Tanchum presented Human Atmospheres at the World Economic Forum's Davos summit, an AI-powered installation commissioned by the WEF's Head of Arts and Culture, Joseph Fowler, that reacted to a live performance by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and violinist Renaud Capuçon and to real-time Davos weather data to generate an evolving digital landscape of mountains, clouds and human presence.The same year, The Eighth Sound, made with the musician Ehud Banai for Israel's Nature and Parks Authority, unfolded as a 40-minute audiovisual work across twenty projections inside the ancient cave system of Beit Guvrin.,Tanchum is a World Economic Forum Cultural Leader and a member of the OpenAI Alpha Artist Program.
