Paul Seibert is a New York photographer known for dramatic aerial images of the city, captured from helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.,Raised in the New York metropolitan area, he has spent more than fifteen years photographing the city,taking to the skies over the past six years to capture its geography and architecture from above.
His access to helicopter shoots came through his role as photographer and director of digital content for a New Jersey-based helicopter company, which let him refine his technique and pursue ambitious projects, including images shot from extreme altitudes.He shoots with two Canon DSLR cameras, favoring a 70-200mm telephoto lens to compress scenes and a 16-35mm wide-angle lens for leading lines, and prioritizes exposing for highlights to preserve detail in post-production.His photography emphasizes pattern, light, and perspective, often turning familiar landmarkssuch as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Buildinginto abstract compositions.
He published a book of his aerial photography, New York From the Air, with Rizzoli in 2022.,Beyond commercial work for brands including Canon USA and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation,he has also produced more conceptual projects, including a 2021 exhibition shot on used photo kits that examined how a take-make-waste linear economy affects people's connection to the world around them, and how nature might inspire a shift toward circularity.He also teaches photographers to rediscover their own perspective through talks on framing, leading lines, and abstraction, including at Photo Pills Camp.
