Paul Reid (Scottish, b. 1975) paints scenes from Greek mythology and legend, including the Minotaur, Pan, Hercules and Theseus, working in oil on canvas and, since 2019, in digital painting.Born in Scone, Perth, and educated at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, he lives and works in Edinburgh.
Reid graduated with first-class honours in drawing and painting from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1998, then studied in Madrid and Florence on scholarships from the Carnegie Trust and the John Kinross bequest. In 2004 he accompanied the Prince of Wales on a trip to Italy, Turkey and Jordan, producing a series of paintings and drawings based on the journey. In 2009 he accompanied the Prince on a visit to Canada. He held solo exhibitions at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh between 2002 and 2019, including “Mythologies” in 2013 and “Gods, Heroes and Beasts” in 2017. His paintings also toured university and museum galleries in Hull, Perth and Dundee between 2007 and 2009. His work is held in the collections of the Royal Scottish Academy, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Perth and Kinross Council, the University of Dundee Museum and the Fleming Collection.
In 2022 Reid took part in “Proof of People” at Fabric London, an exhibition staged with SuperRare. Between 2023 and 2024 his paintings appeared in “In the Company of Monsters: New Visions, Ancient Myths” at Reading Museum and the University of Reading.In 2025 three of his digital paintings, Ariadne's Thread, Circe's Noble Isle and Farewell and a Black Sail, were released through Pranksy's NFT Boxes Transformation drop.Later that year he was among the artists featured in the “Immortal Exhibition” at BitBasel in Miami, staged by Superchief alongside Laurence Fuller and others.
