Patricia Van Sande
Bio

In 1997 the non-artist Jan Van Sande and his wife made their long life dream come true and visited the The MOMA in New York. When they got home Jan verbalized his impressions by eight proud words "Anything they can do - I can do too!“. His families answer was even shorter: “Prove it!“ Challenged by his ambitions the chemical engineer started painting, developed his own rodeo-style of work and even initiated his own exhibitions. He also worked on commission for numerous art enthusiasts. The Van Sande style of painting is highly contemporary. In terms of art history, his works can be described as an extension of "l'art brut". His works are direct emotionally descriptive reactions to the world surrounding him. He consciously paints stories. Every work is a pictorial report with a commentary on an experienced situation, statement, opinion, fad, style, obsession, event or observation.
Prof. Dr. Hans Brög (Professor of art at the University of Duisburg) named him "A Basquiat of Belgium based on the lower rhine“ described him as " A postmodern expressionist“. Called his work "dionian, epicurean, expressive“ and "spontaneous“.
