Patric Ortmann is a motion designer and art director based in Frankfurt, Germany, who also makes personal digital art under the name MotionSickness.,He combines looping 3D animation, particles, and projection mapping into hypnotic, meditative artworks that pair visual motion with soundscapes.
Ortmann trained as a professional chef before discovering media production and 3D animation during his studies. He began as a 2D motion designer before learning 3D, and has spent 15 years working for studios including Pixomondo, ACHT Frankfurt, and Bright! Studios on projects for brands such as Audi, Mercedes, VW, and Nike. Commercial work has included large-scale audiovisual installations, concert visuals, projection mapping, and UI design for cars, while MotionSickness serves as his outlet for experimental, personal work outside those commercial boundaries.
Under MotionSickness he makes the O∞ULT PLACES series, looping 3D animations combined with sound and modeled in Cinema 4D and Redshift. The knots at the center of each piece are inspired by the Mobius loop, which he has described as having “no beginning or end”, like a meditation point. The first, HYP·NO, was minted in March 2021, and MakersPlace gave him an official NFT drop that November.
In April 2023 he held a solo exhibition, “NEONREAL - The Gallery”, in Düsseldorf, presented by Flux Creative as part of the Düsseldorfer Nacht der Museen, where a VR headset let visitors explore the work in a virtual gallery.,For the show he also linked signed prints to their digital counterparts through an NFC chip and the Artvive augmented reality app, an idea suggested by the artist noCreative.
