Ozan Mutlu Dursun

Bio

Ozan Mutlu Dursun is a film photographer and visual artist based in Istanbul, Turkey. He shoots portraits and fashion work exclusively on film, focusing mostly on female models. He discovered photography as a boy. After starting out with digital cameras, he switched to film to learn the medium's fundamentals.

He has worked exclusively on film for six years. Describing his own practice, he has said simply: “I shoot people for a living.” His camera of choice is the Kiev 60, a Soviet-era medium format camera built as a copy of the Pentacon Six, paired with its stock Volna-3 80mm f/2.8 lens. He is drawn to Soviet-made cameras more broadly, including the Zenit, Horizon and Sputnik, for what he describes as their sense of technology, innovation and future. Shooting the Kiev 60 handheld and often outside the studio, and working with its shallow depth of field at wide apertures, he has said its difficulty pushes him to be more creative.
