Owen Moore (Canadian, b. 1985) is a creative developer who makes generative art, soundscapes and interactive media, writing programs that use randomness and branching logic to produce unique visual and sonic works.Rather than designing single finished pieces, he builds systems that generate many possible outcomes and curates specific outputs as editions.Based in Vancouver, Canada, he releases work through Art Blocks.
Moore trained in interactive multimedia design at Algonquin College and studied information technology at Carleton University. He worked in interactive mixed media software for marketing and education before moving into visual effects and animation, where he developed workflow automation tools. In 2017 he learned about Ethereum smart contracts through CryptoKitties. Around 2021 the artist Tim Riopelle's work on SuperRare convinced him blockchain technology could support an independent creative career. He began making generative art in 2021 after discovering Preslav Rachev's e-book Generative Art in Go.He produced his Photosynthetic series, layered geometric reinterpretations of his own photography, as his first algorithmic works. To manage the iterative process of building generative systems, he created the open-source tool Token Art Tools, which other artists have also adopted.
Moore's first Art Blocks collection, Spaghettification, released in July 2021, using simple geometric forms and rhythmic motion to evoke matter stretching near a black hole.Quarantine followed in October 2021, a satirical work styled as a scientific classification chart documenting an invented disease, made during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022 he released Flux on Art Blocks Curated, an audiovisual system in which rendered visuals shape synthesized sound. The work grew out of his experiments with ray-marching in a shader and drew on a meditation practice that he credits with helping him through a period of mental distress as a young adult.Flux #14 was shown in the exhibition “perceive()” at the Art Blocks Gallery in Marfa, Texas, in November 2022.That same year he released Erratic through Art Blocks Playground, distorting a three-dimensional torus by warping the rendering space around it.He also contributed WebGL and algorithm development to Contractions by Loie Hollowell, a work commissioned by Digital Practice Art.In 2023 the Proof Collective commissioned WaveShapes, an audio-reactive shader work built from repeating patterns. It was shown in the “Diamond Exhibition” at Foundry Gallery in Los Angeles.Flux #304 was shown in “Milestones: A History of Generative Breakthroughs on Art Blocks”, curated by Kate Vass at the Art Blocks Gallery in Marfa in October 2025.
