oveck is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City who works across photography, painting, and animation.Originally from the Dominican Republic,he began his career as a musician, performing at venues in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Miami Beach, before turning to photography in 2007 while working in a New York photo studio. In 2016 Sony invited him to become an ambassador for the brand as a photographer.
Working with Photoshop and in-camera techniques, he developed a style built around motion blur, particularly in portraits, giving his images a psychedelic, painterly look. Photography assignments took him to multiple countries to document culture and landscapes, and his work drew clients including Sony and American Express. He later moved into digital painting and animation. The shift began during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, after he documented a Black Lives Matter rally and, in tears, rubbed his eyes with unwashed hands. The resulting bacterial infection left him with obstructed eyesight after treatment, and the recovery period gave him unexpected time on his hands. His girlfriend suggested he try painting, and although he had never painted before, he took it up and continued.
On the blockchain, oveck has minted work across platforms including SuperRare, Foundation, OpenSea, MakersPlace, and KnownOrigin. Individual pieces have sold for between $7,000 and $25,000.His work was included in The Gateway list in 2022 and the NFT100 list in 2023.,Reflecting on his approach to art, oveck has said, “do it for yourself, whatever it is, it needs to come from the heart”, rather than trying to please or compete with others.
