Ouchhh is an Istanbul-based new media studio working with data paintings and data sculptures. Its projects combine art, science and technology, and often use artificial intelligence. They include architectural facade performances, kinetic public art and immersive exhibitions. The studio was founded by the media artist Ferdi Arissi.
Its first members came from the same visual communication design faculty at a university in Istanbul, and the studio marked its tenth anniversary in 2020. At the Elektra festival, it performed Homeomorphism and Solenoid under the SAT dome. “Poetic AI”, shown at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris in 2018, used an AI trained on texts by about 20 million scientists. The AI generated sentences that were projected as patterns of words resembling constellations. The studio has made about 75 public art projects in cities worldwide, for clients including the Ars Electronica festival and CERN.
