Orkhan Mammadov (Azerbaijani, b. 1990) is a new media artist from Ganja, Azerbaijan, whose generative art and installations translate archival and cultural data, including the visual language of traditional Azerbaijani carpets, into immersive digital experiences.,He was trained in computer science, visual communication design and fine arts, and worked as a web and graphic designer before moving into installation and new media art in his early twenties.
He debuted his first public art installation at twenty-three, and his practice shifted toward machine learning and AI-driven work over the following years.In 2019 he represented Azerbaijan at the Venice Biennale, showing interactive multimedia work in the pavilion's exhibition “Virtual Reality”, curated by Gianni Mercurio and Emin Mammadov, which addressed fake news as a threat to democratic debate.
His series Carpetdiem generatively reinterprets the designs of Azerbaijani carpets, using algorithms intended to echo the intricacy of the weaving techniques traditionally used by artisans. In October 2023 he brought the series into physical form for “Carpetdiem Experiments” at Foundry by Emaar in Dubai, showing hand-made wool-and-silk carpets, lenticular prints and silk scarves alongside a project book.
In 2025 he contributed a newly commissioned work to “Memememememe”, an exhibition on internet memes as cultural barometers at the Media Majlis Museum in Qatar.In 2026 OpenAI licensed a work from his series Visions.
