ooakosimo is the alias of Mohini Ochangco, a Philippines-based glitch and new media artist whose work spans live-coded visuals, stop motion animation and crypto art.,Before turning to digital art they spent over a decade, starting around 2004, working as a professional video editor and assistant director across independent films, television and commercials.
They grew up in Manila, Philippines, in the 1980s, immersed in the city's underground punk and art scene, watching sculptor Lirio Salvador build sound-making instruments from scrap and hearing Bob Balingit perform with The Wuds. They have described this environment — junk art built from bicycle parts and kitchen utensils, and punk music that needed no record label — as the foundation of their own creative approach.
They have said their digital art continues the same instinct that drove their earlier work in food and film: taking a raw or damaged source — “a humble squash, a forgotten film clip, or a corrupted JPEG” — and coaxing out its hidden beauty.Their work has been associated with TrashArt, an NFT movement built around artworks made in minutes rather than days, and was included in a TrashArt exhibition at Avant Galerie Vossen in Paris.They have also contributed to DEATH PUNK, a shared collection on Ethereum with pieces from multiple artists, including DEATH PUNK 302 (Materialist Mirage: Glamour Punk) and DEATH PUNK 304 (Renounced Monk Punk).,
