Olivier Bodini, also known as MunstrA, is a digital artist and professor based in Paris who translates large-scale patterns of human social interaction into generative, cellular visual forms.,Drawing on three decades of scientific research into complex, structured systems, he applies a mathematical principle known as the power law, the size distribution also found in social network graphs, to the way his visual patterns are built.
Bodini has headed a digital art team at the Maison des Sciences Numériques (MSN) at Sorbonne Paris Nord University, where he leads MunstrA, a project connecting mathematics, computer science and digital art and the name under which he also signs his own artworks.,Since 2020 he has developed algorithms for generative artworks built from networks of circles and lines that explore the limits of visual complexity.His 2023 piece Macro-Micro-cosmos explores the connections between macroscopic and microscopic worlds, an idea central to his practice of mapping large-scale social interaction onto the visual language of cellular and ecological structures.,
Bodini won the Artex prize for European creative incubators in 2021 for his project Nympheas Numériques.In 2022 he was selected to represent generative art on the Tezos stand at Art Basel Paris+,and his work has also been shown at Galerie Data and Galerie Charlot in Paris.In February 2023 his generative work FraKtuR was one of four pieces released in Blind Gallery's debut fxhash show, the Seed Edition.That year his edition Phagocytosis was included in Unit London's WEB3 selection,and his network-based generative work appeared in the gallery's group exhibition “Unbound: Ecology in the Age of Machines”.
In May 2025 he took part in a public panel at LaMSN in Paris on the transformation of the art market, techno-critical practices and AI.
