Odious is a pseudonymous digital artist who first minted work on the Ethereum blockchain in 2020.Working under this alias, the artist created Odiville, a circus-themed story world populated by digital artworks called Echoes. Echoes can be minted, a process termed “Capture”, or burned to extract an in-world currency called Shade, a process termed “Sacrifice”.
Odiville originated in 2023 and was later expanded into a larger interactive experience on Odious's website. Each Echo carries its own Shade cost and Shade value, and Shade extracted from one Echo can be spent to capture further Echoes. Odious has said Odiville is designed to reveal what the community values, rather than relying on the artist's own sense of which Echoes are popular.The artist's work has also circulated on the marketplaces Foundation, SuperRare, MakersPlace and OpenSea.
