nubplus

Bio

Nubplus is a Turkish-born multidisciplinary artist based in Montenegro who began as a muralist and studied sculpture before shifting his practice into digital production. Working with modular ceramic tiles, bricks and generative code, he builds a visual language of square-headed, two-legged figures derived from Kufic script that recur across his interactive and generative work.

A former graffiti artist, Nubplus was strongly influenced by typography and developed his surface designs from Kufic script, the angular calligraphic form of Arabic writing. That language gave rise to the humanoid figures that recur throughout his work, which he describes as “emotional symbols” whose relationships to one another form structures that mimic architectural compositions. He also works with modular ceramic tiles and bricks tied to architectural thinking, and pursues large-scale architectural projects in the digital medium, since building them physically would demand resources beyond his reach.
