Noah Kocher, known as NoKo, is a visual artist who makes layered collages from vintage magazine pages and digitally alters them with a liquify effect that gives the images a fluid, screen-only quality. Based in Brooklyn, New York, he was born in Tennessee. His collages and paintings distort figures into dreamlike, uncanny-valley forms that mix familiarity with the strange.
Kocher started doodling in a notebook after taking an art history class and began selling his designs on t-shirts. He later moved into collage, cutting images from vintage magazines from the 1980s and 90s and creating his own backgrounds rather than relying only on found pages. A large donated collection of vintage National Geographic magazines, acquired while he lived in Asheville, North Carolina, became a key source of material for his collages.
