Niko Stumpo is an Italian video and audiovisual artist who has performed and exhibited internationally since the early 2000s.,,,His studio, This Is A Robot,is an Amsterdam-based independent “Imagination Studio” that creates digital and analog experiences for audiences from children to adults.
In 2001, Stumpo collaborated with the artist gmunk on Contention IT.UK, a football-themed interactive piece examining the gap between the wealth of British and Italian football stars and the poverty of homeless populations. It was presented through The Remedi Project, an online interactive art gallery that ran from 1997 to 2002 and hosted twelve exhibitions of more than 60 digital artists.In 2005 he performed live audiovisual work as Niko Stumpo at the “Territoires Electroniques” festival at the Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence, France, alongside artists including Marius Watz.His video work was also included in “+39: Call for Italy”, a touring survey of the modern Italian electronic art and design scene curated by Marco Mancuso and Claudia D'Alonzo, shown at the Cimatics festival in Brussels in 2007 and the Nemo festival in Paris in 2008.,
This Is A Robot's imagination research draws on fields including computer science, psychology, creative arts, philosophy, neuroscience, artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Through this work the studio aims to stimulate creativity, vision, digital art and storytelling.
