Neel Shivdasani is a generative artist who writes code to create evolving visual patterns and animations, drawing on ideas from biology and optical illusion. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, he has worked as a data science product manager at Mailchimp and as a product manager for AI at Webflow, alongside his generative art practice.
His work Tropism, a fixed edition of 500 released on Art Blocks Factory in December 2021, is built around the idea of tropism — the way an organism's growth responds to environmental stimuli. The piece constructs stable graphs and applies steps that cascade through each graph, leaving marks that become the defining characteristics of the output. Shivdasani has also released Motion Pictures, a series of 100 artworks on Art Blocks Studio, and a set of thirteen individual works on Foundation. He has explored kinegrams in code — barrier-grid optical illusions that reveal a hidden animation when a striped overlay is moved across an image. Shivdasani also founded GASP Gallery, a platform that lets buyers customize prints of generative art and lets generative artists worldwide sell their work.
