Natalie Shau is a Lithuanian illustrator and photographer, based in Vilnius, who creates surreal, strange imagery by combining photography, digital painting and 3D elements.,Her style draws on religious imagery, fairytale illustration and classic Russian literature, including the work of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Nikolai Gogol.
Since 2004 she has worked as a self-employed artist, creating illustrations and photography for book covers and advertising alongside her personal work,as well as illustrations for music bands.,Her clients have included the musicians Kerli and Cradle of Filth,and record labels such as Island Def Jam, Sony BMG, Century Media and Nuclear Blast.Her illustrations for the jewelry designer Lydia Courteille were published in French Vogue, and she worked as art director for a short 3D film made within Kamel Ouali's musical Dracula.,
She has exhibited internationally, including solo and group shows at Kat Von D's Wonderland Gallery and at Vanilla Gallery in Tokyo,with further exhibitions in the United States, France, Italy and Germany.Her work has been featured in Hi Fructose, New York Arts, Juxtapoz and Computer Arts magazines, and she painted the cover of Heavy Metal #288 in 2017.,She self-published a limited edition of 500 copies of her art book Tangled Tales.
In a 2022 interview, the generative artist Zancan named her among his favorite artists working in darker illustrative styles.In December 2025 she took part in Advent Collaboration, a 24-day digital advent calendar led by the artist Jenni Pasanen, contributing one of the daily one-of-one artworks made with 25 guest artists and hosted through Transient Labs.
