Nacho Cossio is a creative coder and technologist who makes real time interactive audiovisual experiences across virtual reality, projection mapping, physical installations, video walls and 3D printing.He is the cofounder of the creative studio Lumen, formed with the artist Fernanda Ramos.,His work has been shown at FILE São Paulo, Matadero Madrid, the Dakar Biennale and Medialab-Prado, and produced commercially for clients including Nike, Google and Seat.
In 2013 Lumen's interactive installation Homage to B. Franklin was shown at FILE São Paulo, then in its 14th edition.During a residency at Medialab-Prado in Madrid, Cossio formed a group to experiment with generative systems modeled on natural phenomena, producing a biomimetic structure for Naturaleza Generativa, with an interactive video mapping of generative visuals driven by a reaction-diffusion system reacting to live sound.He also made his first 3D-printed object, growing a cellular automaton in three dimensions and printing it at Medialab-Prado's fablab.With Lumen he also adapted Fernanda Ramos's Micromundos Amenazados II for Medialab-Prado's media façade during the AfterArco event, portraying people threatened by the demolition of a historic neighborhood.
His interactive installation for the touring exhibition “Monet's Garden” let visitors disturb millions of particles emanating from two of Monet's paintings, their movement tracked by camera and fed into a fluid simulation. The piece was shown in Berlin, New York, Hamburg, Vienna, Zurich, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.For Nike's AirMax Day event at EP7 in Paris, developed by Bonjour Lab, Cossio handled real time rendering and lighting for digital avatars that visitors created from a 3D face scan and saw posed on the building's façade alongside Nike athletes Warren Zaïre-Emery and Enzo Lefort.In 2024 he was commissioned by Things Happen studio to create a segment of a full-dome show on whirlpools and water spirals for a TATA Consultancy Services reception at the World Economic Forum in Davos, using Unity3D, VFX Graph and custom fluid simulations to drive millions of particles.
