Mr. Misang is a South Korean digital artist whose densely detailed, brightly colored illustrations and animations satirize the pressures of modern Korean corporate life.Working under a pseudonym that means unknown or anonymous in Korean,,he built his reputation with Modern Life is Rubbish, a twelve-part animated series adapting illustrations he first drew in 2016.
Credited as Lee JuYong, Mr. Misang worked as a commercial illustrator, producing posters, covers, and animations for magazines and brands.The series closed in 2021 with #12. Mr Misang & Crypto World, a video piece staged inside a virtual CryptoVoxels gallery.Critics later cited #09. Company entrance, an animated MLIR illustration, as an example of NFT art purposely designed to exist only in that form.By June 2021 pieces from the series such as #10. Pantheon were circulating on SuperRare,and he had joined HanDAO, a Korean NFT collective.
In December 2021 he previewed his next PFP collection, Ghosts Project.In November 2023 he collaborated with the French artist Polygon1993 on Masked Souls, a joint drop,alongside an exhibition of his own work at Galerie IHAM and the Centre Culturel Coréen in Paris.The Centre Culturel Coréen went on to give him a solo monographic show, “The Crowds”, running through 16 December.The exhibition paired a ten-minute video mapping of his career with a room of key works including Modern Life is Rubbish and Masked Workers,alongside new pieces he made with Polygon1993 for the show.
